Returning A Lease Car With Wheel Damage
All vehicles suffer damage because of wear and tear, and alloy wheels are one of the first victims. You don’t require a collision, as time forces even the most cautious drivers to contemplate the financial ramifications of scuffs and scratches on their alloy wheels.
Travelling in your car daily can cause alloy wheels to look worn, and this is a concern if you are planning on returning your lease vehicle.
Is it appropriate to return a leased vehicle with alloy wheel damages or what constitutes as damage in the eyes of the manufacturer? Let us answer these questions and tell you everything you need to know about wheel damage on a lease car.
What is acceptable wheel damage when returning a lease car?
According to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), acceptable wear and tear is the deterioration caused over time and not because of careless driving. Apart from many other parts of the car, wheels are also covered in the Fair wear and tear index.
You may have signed an agreement pledging to take care of the car before leasing a vehicle, and the same applies to the acceptable condition of wheels you can return your vehicle.
You must return the tyres in a condition fit for the car in question and meet all the legal requirements, and there must be no damage to sidewalls or tread.
When returning your lease car, the wheels must not:
- Have dents or holes in the rims or trims
- Scuffs should be more than 50mm
- The wheel’s spokes and/or alloy hubs must not have any damage
- Be sure to be accompanied by your inflation canister and it must be partially or fully discharged
- The spare wheel also should not be damaged, unusable or incorrectly stored
